Of Paper and Pony Parts

So this is a little different, huh?

I'm not really sure whether I call this one "fine art" or not, but it's the only project I still have any semblance of a liking for from Design Foundations IV last semester. I had a pretty incompetent professor and the assignments taught me nothing of real world value, but this one was... well, I made it tolerable by pretty much breaking the rules. I believe the project itself was called "50 sheets of freedom" or something close to it, in which we had to make up a story about fitting horses into an urban setting-- except that my professor amended that part with "oh just make it about a paragraph because I don't want to really read things" and thus I had to scrap a lot of creative writing over it.

I made up some big elaborate history about a desolated post WWIII world where a veteran cybernetic limb prosthetist came across this old horse who'd had two of its legs blown off by residual land mines, and saved it from culling/the slaughterhouse/whatever to turn into a sentimental pet project.

We had to "illustrate" whatever we'd written in a 3-D format using nothing but Elmer's school glue and 50 sheets of white copy paper... so of course the studio major in me made a fake paper mache out of layered adhesive and pre-crushed scraps. The legs were constructed with little cigarette roll bases, and the cybernetic bits are cut from fake 'card stock' I made by laminating 4 and 5 sheets on top of each other with glue.

This thing is sturdier than it looks, actually! And it's about... 6 inches tall, give or take? I can't say for sure though, since the university's still holding it for some accreditation thing with a lot of my other stuff. Ah, well.
